Low Income family
Sukhmanpreet Kaur lives with her family in the Ludhiana District. She enjoys visiting the Sri Harmandir Sahib and aspires to be a doctor when she grows up. Not too long ago her father also worked in the field of medicine as a licensed distributor of medicine. However, due to increased discrimination against Sikhs in 2014 his license was revoked due to his own clients no longer wanting medicine from a Sikh. Unemployed and betrayed by his own clientele, Sukhmanpreet’s father struggles to provide for his family. Fortunately, the local Sikh community came together to aid her father, helping him to lease an auto-rickshaw. After lease payments, he now only earns 7000 rupees a month ($140). With her father struggling to make ends meet, Sukhmanpreet‘s dream to be a doctor might have to be put on hold.
