Hyderabad:- Miryalguda This is Sikligar Sikh community where SAF has been working since Summer 2017.
Sony Kaur is 9 years old and lives with her family in Miryalguda, Nalgonda. Sony comes from a family of Sikligar Sikhs. The Sikligars are a neglected community, who as a whole have a poor standard of living through no fault of their own. The government provided the people in this area with very small parcels of land to live on for each family, and also with 70,000 rupees ($1400 CAD) per family. As you may know, it is hard to build a proper home with only $1400 CAD, no matter where you live in the world. Some families managed to build a makeshift home of sorts, where others were only able to build half a home for themselves. If the future of a community is at stake, then it is very important to connect the new generation with the education of the present. It is for these reasons that the Sikligar Sikhs has a special place within our organization, and SAF International has been trying to focus on helping them out of this cycle of poverty that they have been in for generations. Your monthly contribution should you choose to sponsor, will cover Sony Kaur’s tuition fees, school supplies, textbook costs, and any medical issues for the child and her immediate family.
